Throughout October and November 2015, I was lucky enough to be part of 4 person team, commissioned by The National Museums of Scotland responsible for the dismantling and cleaning of the Millennium Clock and then re-assembling it in a new position.
One of the highlights of this job was the privilege of meeting the Shamanka Kinetic Theatre team – Millennium Clock sculptor-mechanic Eduard Bersudsky, theatre director Tatyana Jakovskaya and lighting designer Sergey Jakovsky. Later we visited their Trongate Studio to experience their amazing theatre of mechanical sculptures.
“Hundreds of tiny carved figures and pieces of old scrap perform an incredible Heath-Robinson-meets-Hieronymus-Bosch choreography to haunting music and synchronized lighting, telling the funny and tragic stories of the human spirit struggling against the relentless circles of life and death.”
